ABS vs. PVC?
i need to make an pneumatic(compressed air) cannon for the opening act of a talent show. I have the design and shape, but i was wondering what i should use to build the "cannon" out of. I hear ABS isn't as strong as PVC, but PVC sends shrpenel everywhere. Which type of pipe should i use and should it be cellular or solid core, and what schedule-?
what are the pros and cons of each type of pipe?
For compressed Air PVC should be safe. I Wouln't recomend it for the "traditional" Pototo cannon method using a Flamable propellant. PVC Weakesn when exposed to Sunlight for extended periods of time.

PVC Fencing for Your Horse Enclosure
For horse keepers who need to find a way of keeping their animals enclosed, there are a number of fencing options. The most common options are wire, wood and PVC fencing and each has different good and bad points. Before we go into detail about the benefits of different fencing materials it is important to underline two of the biggest safety issues associated with horse fencing. First of all it is absolutely vital to walk the length of the fencing regularly to inspect it for damage, breakages or weak points. Also, ensure that the height of the horse enclosure fencing is appropriate so that horses do not become tempted to attempt to jump it. Roughly speaking, the highest part of the fence should be a similar height to the horse's nose. If there are several horses in one enclosure aim for a fence at the height of the largest horse's nose.
Out of wood, wire and PVC fencing, it is wire that is the cheapest by quite a large margin. Unfortunately though, it is not usually durable enough to make a decent horse enclosure fence. It also increases the risk of injury to horses grazing or scratching themselves on it because it is difficult for them to see and so they are more likely to walk into it or scratch up against it. The next cheapest is wood, which has the advantage of being traditional and attractive and may even add value to a property. However, it is unfortunate that wooden fencing does require a good amount of maintenance. It must be painted regularly and is likely to blister, peel or rot, especially when it becomes excessively wet. Also, the installation process often requires the use of nails which can pose dangers to horses. If a horse injures itself on a jutting out nail they will probably become scared and distressed, putting them in further danger.
These problems are not experienced with PVC fencing. It's stronger and more durable than wooden fencing and will not split or splinter, even at wet times of year. Ongoing investment of time and money in investment and repair is not necessary with PVC fencing. PVC fencing reduces the risk of injury to horses because it does not have nails. Although PVC fencing is the most expensive type on the market, the initial investment is offset by the longer term savings such as long life, lack of maintenance and time saved on repair and installation.
