I have an "Emerald Blue" moss phlox (subulata). There's some green on the top but dried/ dead underneath.
Is this normal for this time of year? I always thought this plant was supposed to stay green. Should I pull out all the dead stuff? If so, there might not be much plant left! 
Was there any powdery substance on the leaves before the leaves died or dried up? Phlox is notorious for getting powdery mildew. The secret is to thin the stalks a bit so that there's some air circulation to the middle of the plant. Also never water phlox so that water remains on the leaf. (Stick the hose on the ground by the plant- don't water on the plant.) If it's powdery mildew, your plant should come back next year fine. It'll just be a minor eye sore for the rest of the summer.
