Rope Lights at Christmas
Rope lights can be a very festive decoration at Christmas time. Rope lights are safer that the mini string lights because their lights are inside a tube and protected from the winter weather and less easy to break.
The tubing that surrounds these lights is very flexible so you will be able to follow the shape of your house. You can also be very imaginative and create your own designs and shapes with rope lights. Running them down the sides of your driveway or as landscape path lights will let those who come for visits know where to park and walk for safety. Another possibility would be to mount them on stakes and outline your front yard landscaping. For indoor use they can be used to decorate any large houseplant, your Christmas tree or brighten up a corner of a room.
Light-emitting diode or LED rope lights are now available for conserving energy. These lights are very tiny bulbs with no filament and this is the reason they are able to use less energy; they also do not get very hot and will last longer than the regular bulbs. The LED lights will burn brighter; they are made of heavy plastic and are very long lasting. They can also last up to 100,000 hours and you can string up to about 600 feet together.
Because these outdoor rope lights are encased in tubing you can create numerous shapes. Some of the festive shapes you can create are: stockings, bells, candy canes, trees, stars, animals, or a simple holiday greeting. Mounting clips are available for rope lights for the ease of mounting on different surfaces such as a fence or on a frame to stand on your front landscaping. These rope lights can be purchased in many different colors including multi-colored and clear. If you purchase Christmas rope lights that are classified as chasers you can place them on Christmas decorations that have wheels and it will give the impression that the decoration is moving. They can also be wrapped around trees, bushes and hedges, or around a flag pole.
Solar rope lights are a very good choice for landscape rope lighting as they do not need electricity, just the sun as their energy source. They can be used when it is rainy, overcast, or while it is snowing because of their polycrystalline cells. These solar cells are capable of capturing enough energy during dispursed sunlight or a small amount of daylight during the winter months to perform.
Your backyard garden is also an excellent place for holiday rope lights. Deck rope lighting can be placed along the railings of your deck or along the edge of your deck flooring. They can also be mounted on your landscape fencing to highlight your entire backyard landscaping. Rope lights mounted on stakes used as landscape path lights are a great way to see around the garden. Using rope lights at Christmas and any time during the year is an innovative way of lighting up your garden and landscaping.

Outdoor Path Lighting to Highlight the Gardens
Outdoor path lighting is an excellent way to show off our beautiful flower beds. Outdoor lighting is also a good way to highlight or spotlight water fountains, garden statuary, and some of our favorite shrubs or trees in our garden or on the lawn. The hardest part is choosing the right type of lighting that will work best for our yard.
A well-kept landscape is very important for a homeowner whether it is a grass lawn or rock-scapes with scattered Drought Tolerant plants; it makes a home stand out. Many of us have spent many hours selecting, planting, and pruning so our yards, patios, and outdoor living areas are the best we could afford. Watching everything grow into something beautiful can be a pleasure so now we want to bring more beauty to our homes by lighting our yards and gardens during the night.
The outdoor pathway lighting that we choose needs to reflect on our lifestyle and how we want the landscape to look. The lighting can either be powered by the sun or electricity. This is only a matter of choice since there are so many different varieties of light available in both styles. If you want brighter lights around the walkways and the entertaining areas, electric light is probably the better way to go.
Outdoor lighting is great for lighting up the landscape and garden but it is also very important for security purposes. The darkest areas around our homes have a habit of luring individuals with ill-intentions. If we light up our yards and patios we can discourage them because they do not like to be seen. There are also lights available that will light up automatically when someone comes within close range; this usually scares them and they will run off.
There are so many designs that range from modern to antique. Some of the modern light designs will hide the source of light and give us an illuminated object or area. Some antique designs will add eighteenth century elegance to any pathway. We should always select the designs that complement our home and landscape; sometimes that could mean some of the lights will be modern and some will be antique style.
Landscape path lighting can also become a safety feature for the long path that winds through a garden or along a short path leading to an elevated patio or deck .An llumiinated path will not only highlight our trees, shrubs, flower beds and planters but guides visitors away objects that could cause them to trip. Outdoor lighting can be a very artistic accent to certain objects in the garden or landscape without lighting up the entire area.
Outdoor solar path lighting does not give off much light but using several in a series give off sufficient light for safety and ambience. They are easy to install and do not require very much maintenance just to change batteries maybe once a year. These lights can be inserted into the ground or coach type lanterns can be mounted on posts along a path. Accent lights or up lights are types of pathway lighting that will provide an upward glow of light. These lights usually produce a bright glow and are electric. Also available for walkways are recessed lights that can be placed into the walkway; they are electric or solar powered.
Using outdoor path lighting is a good way to highlight an outdoor landscape, garden, or entertaining area that will give us many hours of enjoyment during the evening hours all year long.
