Animal noises outside at night...?
I'm just curious as to what sort of animal might make this noise. I'll do my best to describe it. It's pretty high pitched, and sounds like a rolling sound, almost like a cat purring. It's also pretty loud. The animal is on the first floor, outside at night with the frogs and crickets, and I can hear it upstairs. It might be echoing off the concrete retaining wall though. It sounds almost like a dinosaur...!
I've looked online at animal noise websites and it's similar to those made by certain squirrels and chipmunks. I just don't know if it's a weird cat, a bird, a rodent, or what. I tried recording it to no avail, my little laptop mic won't pick it up.
I live in central Oregon if it helps. Websites with audio clips would be greatly appreciated.
I'm 19 by the way...I find it funny that someone thought I was a little kid. I'm serious though, it sounds kind of like a dinosaur. =D
Sounds like a screech owl. They don't actually screech but it sure makes a strange noise. It's not a hoot either. It's almost fast enough to sound like a warble. They will usually continue until dawn.
