Tips to shoot in Natural Lighting – outdoor photography
Most photographers prefer natural light within their photographs. In this article, we'll explore a few photography tips for making the best use of natural light.
Every Photographer, whether Serious or Amateur dream of taking the best shot, when they step out in the sun to shoot pictures. Natural Lighting?
Existing light is also referred as Natural light in photography and technically it's defined as the available light source while taking picture with out the use of a Speed light or flashguns. Using a flash to take picture is referred as artificial light source to take a picture.
Timing is Important.
Morning sunlight is the best time to take images, the soft lighting in the atmosphere makes the image looks very natural, evenly light and also create soft shadows. Similarly evening light before the sunsets is also the best time to take the pictures. During midday when the sun is bright and harsh photographers refrain going out and take pictures, as it creates a lot of harsh shadows. However we can use this time to shoot indoors with reflected light.
Mid-day or Afternoon Harsh light
There are times when you have to capture images during this time of the day. If you are shooting a portrait during, mid-day you need to find a good location or a spot where the lighting is more even use the shade of a building, shade of the trees to block the harsh glare.
Use of Reflectors
Using reflector to manipulate or change the direction of the sunlight. Reflectors come in various shapes and sizes, the best is the ones that are foldable easy to carry they also come in various tones like silver, golden, white and gray too. The gray/black is used to block light, white will assist to fill the shadows, the translucent surfaces will create the soft effect, golden will produce a rich tone and the silver surfaces will enhance the contrast.
