Guide to Lawn Maintenance
-
Mowing
Allowing you lawn to overgrow not only looks bad but it kills grass when it falls over and shades other grass seedlings. Use a sharp blade lawn mower of good quality. Mulching lawn mowers are even better as they will chop up the grass and reuse it as grass fertilizer.
-
Watering
Adequate water is incredibly important. You need to how much water your specific grass type needs. If your unsure you can ask your lawn care service company. Of course, you can always find a discreet spot and put a shovel into the ground and fell the soil with your hand. You will need to water you lawn more in the summer months and reduce it in the fall.
-
Fertilizers
Fertilizing will not only make your grass greener but it will also help grass seeds germinate faster. This faster germination makes the grass healthier in its infancy as well as in its adulthood, not to mention the benefits of sending off Rhizomes, Stolons and Tillers Making an all around healthier grass. Generally speaking fertilizers should be applied 4 times per year every 2 months. You should make your first application 30 days before growing season starts.
-
Aerating
In order for grass to grow the soil needs water, nutrients and air. For this reason you will benefit from aerating the soil occasionally because the mowed grass can clog and block air from entering the soil. There are several tools for this including tine fork, lawn scarifier, or just a regular pitch fork all of which can be found in your local home and garden shop
-
Lawn weeding
Each time you cut your lawn walk around for a few minutes with a de-weeding tool and take out the more obvious large weeds. You must remove them from the roots up. After a while this will add up and you lawn will be more or less weed free.

Should I get a billboard for my lawn care business?
I've recently started a lawn care business and am having trouble acquiring new accounts. Would it be worth it for me to purchase an ad on a billboard?
I wouldn't spend the money, instead take the money and print some flyers to pass around to houses or even local hardware stores and chamber of commers, ect. Also make some magnets and stick them on your vehical. These ways are cheeper and generaly work better for new businesses

Lawn Dogs $12.22 A young girl finds friendship on the wrong side of the career tracks in this drama. Camelot Gardens is a "gated community" where wealthy people can purchase luxurious (if sterile) homes and a security force ensures that riffraff will be kept away from your door after nightfall. The Stockard family are new arrivals at Camelot Gardens; father Morton (Christopher McDonald) is a businessman who wants to go into politics, while mother Clare (Kathleen Quinlan) busies herself with affairs with younger men. Neither seems to have much time for their 10-year-old daughter Devon (Mischa Barton), who doesn't care for children her own age; Devon's uncle likes to entertain her with stories about a witch named Baba Yaga who lives in the forest, so one day she wanders into the nearby woods looking for Baba. Instead, she finds a trailer that's home to Trent (Sam Rockwell), a 20-something free spirit who scrapes together a living by mowing the lawns of Camelot Gardens. Devon and Trent both have physical and emotional scars to deal with, and they soon become friends and confidantes; however, Devon's parents become upset when they learn that their daughter's best friend is a grown man, particularly one who lives in a trailer and does lawn maintenance for a living. Top Tips For Summer Lawn Care
Keeping your lawn lush and green over the hot summer months can be difficult. Follow these summer lawn care tips and make your lawn the envy of the neighbourhood.
Summer Lawn Care - Watering
Your lawn typically needs between 1 and 1.5 inches of water per week. If it's really hot and your lawn starts to yellow you may need to increase this. Try to water your lawn once a week rather than spreading your watering out. Water in the morning, preferably before 10 am as this will reduce the amount of water evaporation, meaning more water will sink into your lawn. You should avoid watering you lawn at night as it can increase the risk of fungi and disease.
Summer Lawn Care - Mowing
Let your lawn grow a little higher during the summer months than when the weather is colder. The higher grass will help protect the roots from the sun's blaze. Most gardening experts recommend a height of 3-3.5 inches, or even 4 inches if the summer is unusually hot. You should also avoid mowing your lawn when it is very hot as this can cause it to dry up and turn yellow. You should also mow your lawn less than you would during the rest of the year. Once a fortnight is generally sufficient.
Summer Lawn Care - Feeding
For maximum summer lawn care, apply a summer feed to help it grow well. There are several chemical feeds available which are designed for the summer months and will help keep your lawn green and crisp during hot weather.
Summer Lawn Care - Seeding and Repairing
Although most gardeners would recommend seeding and repairing in spring or autumn, if you are prepared to regularly water your lawn it can be done in summer. There are some fantastic lawn repair seeding kits on the market which can have fantastic results if you care for your lawn and water it regularly.
Summer Lawn Care - Boosting
Summer lawn care needs to continue throughout the hot weather. If your lawn is starting to look tired and yellowed after a few weeks of summer then try a lawn boost. There are lots of lawn boost products on the market which will feed and rejuvenate your lawn and help keep it looking beautiful throughout the rest of the hot weather.
Summer Lawn Care - Compaction
Your lawn is most well used during the summer months, with dogs and children running all over it. This can start to cause compaction after a few years. If you find you are getting bare patches on your lawn in places where it is most used, compaction is probably the cause. The best way to treat compaction is to aerate your lawn. You can hire aerators from rental companies and some garden centres, but most experts recommend that you aerate in late autumn, so unfortunately you will have to live with the patches throughout the hot weather, but will be able to eradicate them by the following summer.
So follow these simple summer lawn care tips and achieve the lush lawn you've always dreamed of.
