It won't matter how much you paid or didn't pay, however, if it doesn't work with your bar. Whether you're opening a neighborhood pub or want them as seats for a kitchen island, choosing a stool the correct height to seat a person at the counter is imperative.
Bar stools are found in a range of "standard" heights. Short stools can be as low as 24 inches from floor to the top of the seat. 34-Inch bar stools are considered a fairly average height. Then there are taller varieties that can be up to 40 inches and higher. What does this mean to you? It means that you have selection, but it also means that you need to make your selection carefully. To find the right height, you first need to measure your bar or counter from the floor to the underside of that counter. Remember, you'll want the stool to be able to slide under that counter. If your bar has overlap, you'll also need to be sure that someone sitting on that seat legs will fit. That means adding a few more inches (12 – 14 as a rule) to accommodate the human portion of the total bar stool height. If you have an inch or two to spare, great but if it comes too close or the gap is too great, the size is wrong for your counter.
You might need 34-inch bar stools. You might need 24-inch stools. You may have a truly unique counter and want custom made stools. The only way to find out is to measure and then select your stool and its height so the bar and the bar stool fit together to create a great look and a comfortable place to hang out.

How To Build A Bar
It's not hard to build a bar. You will increase the potential for success by ensuring that you pay attention to the following tips and by being meticulous when performing your measurements. A bar can be a wonderful addition to any home especially if you like to entertain fairly often.

Instructions
1)You will first have to measure your bar area. When taking measurements you should make sure that there is enough space for someone to walk behind the bar with an extra few inches or feet to enable the user to manoeuvre in the bar area quite easily. You should ensure that the overall height of the bar does not extend beyond 45 inches. Also the complete width at the base should be able to support your counter top. You will also need to make certain that there is overhang on either side to accommodate both the bartender and your guests. A good rule of thumb is 11 inches at the bartender's section and 1 foot for your guest's area.
2)Now you will need to create the box to act as a support for the bar top and extra accessories that will be used in the bar. You should have already allowed 45 inches of height for the length of the bar. If your bar will have a sink or a cooler you should at this point demonstrate this in your floor plan. At each corner of the box you will need to install 45 degree triangular blocks using a drill. These pieces should act as additional support for your box. For a bar that is much longer in length joists and studs should be used. Make certain that these are evenly spaced apart during the installation period.
3)You can now begin to "dress the box" or more correctly install all the additional features that will make it a bar. You should install the support fixtures that will be put in to house the shelves, cooler and sink. You have the option of using 2X4 stock or a thinner cheaper one can be used instead if you are trying to reduce cost. Once you have completed this process you can begin assesing the work done thus far to figure out where the holes will be drilled for the faucets, electrical cords and drain lines. You would probably have had general ideas of where these would be put once you began doing the layout. Go ahead and drill the holes once you are satisfied with your final decision.
4)The final step will be done once you install your counter. If you are using wood then all you will need to do is cut it to fit and then stain it to a lovely finish before installing it. If you will be using a pre-fabricated stone top then you should have it assessed professionally to ensure that the base will be able to handle the additional weight.
