The Aeroponic System For You

If you are a new indoor gardener or a long-time horticulturalist, you will find that aeroponics is a type of indoor, soilless gardening similar to hydroponics that is gaining in popularity.  Aeroponics systems allow gardeners to grow plants where the soil is poor or nonexistent, and the plants grow in air rather than soil.  For those in the nursery trade, an aeroponic system or aeroponic cloner can help you quickly start cuttings from all manner of established plants, which can then be transplanted and grown on for resale.  For their convenience of use and speed in producing healthy and large plants, gardeners turn to aeroponics systems for their indoor gardening setup.

To get started with soilless indoor gardening, you might want to start with hydroponic grow kits.  Hydroponic grow kits offer all of the pieces and parts of a complete growing system so that you can easily begin the process of growing your own food or flowers indoors.  Hydroponics uses a soilless growing medium in which the roots of the plant are grown.  It might be coir or other types of medium, and a reservoir system is put in place under the medium holding the roots.  In this reservoir system is placed a solution of water and nutrient, which is a soluble plant food that hydroponically grown plants require for food.

An aeroponic system allows the roots of the plants to be grown in the air.  This is accomplished by suspending the crown of the plant in some kind of a holder, such as a net, which is placed in an open-bottomed tray.  In this way, the roots are exposed to the air.  Normally, a plant would receive water and food through the roots via the soil, but in an aeroponic system a misting device is used to spray water and nutrient onto the plants' roots.  Because the roots of plants in an aeroponic system are suspended in the air, the roots are exposed to a great deal of oxygen, and this is one big reason why aeroponically grown plants grow very quickly and reach substantial sizes.

There are several quality brands of aeroponics systems available.  Lines such as AeroFlo, American Agritech and Rainforest all offer top quality aeroponics systems suitable for home or commercial gardeners.  These systems are flexible enough to allow you to grow dozens of plants in a small area, and they create lush foliage, flowers, fruits and vegetables in a short amount of time.  You will find an aeroponic system, hydroponic grow kits and an aeroponic cloner at better online discount gardening supplier websites.

do hydroponic cloners really work?

im thinkin about buying a little cloner and i want to make sure it'll work before i put down $100

Absolutely! It's actualy a lot of fun, if you're a plant freak like me.

The biggest requirement for taking clones is a healthy parent, or stock plant. A parent plant should be in excellent health and should posess the characteristics wished for in the new plants. It should be at least two months old and it should still be in the stages of vegetative growth.
Besides that you need:
Extremely sharp, sterile razor blade for cutting off leaves and foliage
Rooting Hormone or solution
A Tray and Clear Plastic Dome
Growing media, such as a sheet of OasisĀ®, Rockwool or other hydroponic media.
Prepared nutrient solution
Spray bottle
Heating Mat
First, you'll want to prepare the humidity tray by soaking the growing media with your prepared nutrient solution. You will use this same nutrient solution to water the clones in a few days. Once your media is wet you should polk holes in the media with a pencil if it does not already have holes. Place the tray on a propagation heat mat, and cover with the plastic dome to warm the rooting medium. After you have prepared your tray, you are ready to begin to take cuttings.

Cut a short piece of a growing stem with several branch points on it. These branch points are call internodes. Usually these point will only have leaves coming out of them . The point at which the stem is actually growing is called the Apcial Meristem. The goal of cuttings is to cuyt that apical meristem and grow roots on it. It will then become the top of your future plant to be.

Using your sterile razor you should cut the stem off with a precise and clean cut, cutting through cleanly without causing any extra damage. The cut should be made at a 45 degree angle. For absolute best results, make a first cut and then make the second cut at a 45 degree angle under water. You should strive for clones that will have one or two internodal spaces under the growing media. Cut off this extra leaf matter and dip the cut part in rooting hormone or solution (follow directions on the bottle for correct dilution rates etc.) Immediately place the cutting into the previously soaked growing medium. The cutting should be about 1/2" deep in the growing medium (when doing this be VERY careful not to bend the stems!)

As you continue to take cuttings, be sure to keep them moist by spraying them frequently with the spray bottle - get the undersides of their leaves. If you are worried about wilting clones, you should check on No-wilt which prevents transpiration and helps prevent wilt.

Good luck!

The Aeroponic Cloner: Its Function And Uses

If you garden indoors on a large scale in a greenhouse setting, you are likely producing plants that will be sold to the public.  Because of good sales and a fast turnover of plants, you need to be able to efficiently keep more new plants coming, and it is for this reason that growers turn to the aeroponic cloner.  Aeroponic cloners are used to accelerate the growth of roots on cuttings, giving you strong young transplants that will quickly take root and grow.  An aeroponic cloner is also a great choice for those practicing hydroponic gardening, where plants grow quickly and must be replaced with new ones.

With aeroponics, the plant is suspended in netting supporting the crown, and grown in no soil at all but hanging in the air.  The plant receives nutrients via a misting spray of nutrient solution directly on the roots.  Because the roots are exposed to oxygen, it promotes fast growth as well as a large reduction of plant diseases.

An aeroponic cloner functions in a similar manner.  Cuttings are placed in special trays that hold them in place, and periodically rooting hormones are sprayed onto the ends of the exposed cuttings to induce the growth of roots.  A pump is used in the plant cloner to bring the rooting hormone solution to the sprayers, and to increase the air temperature a humidity dome is used.  Air pumps are also used to keep air circulating so as to prevent mold and other diseases from gaining a hold on the plants.

An easy way to get started with an plant cloner is to purchase plant cloning kits.  With cloning kits, everything you need will be included, so it is a simple matter to set the equipment up and get started producing new plants right away.

In addition to an aeroponic cloner, you may also wish to get plant cloning kits that allow you to start new plants in other growing media.  These cloning kits allow you to start new plants in clone plugs, as an alternative to aeroponic cloners.

There are additional supplies that you will want to use with cloning kits in order to ensure success at plant propagation.  Sharp gardening shears, rooting hormone, rooting solution, cloning gel, propagation trays, perhaps rockwool cubes and humidity propagation domes are all helpful in the pursuit of starting new plants easily and well.

You can find an aeroponic cloner and all manner of cloning supplies, including kits, from well-stocked discount hydroponic gardening online merchants.  These suppliers will also carry all of the items you need to grow your plants on to maturity as well.
