Rules in Business Greeting Card Etiquette

When it comes to maintaining customer relationships, sending greeting cards is a must. In the highly competitive and hectic business world, it pays to let customers feel they are appreciated even in simple manners. Aside from gaining customer loyalty, these cards also help encourage other people to patronize your products and services. If you haven't employed this tool in your business yet, you are missing the significance of this gesture. Bring out your creative juices now and make your own greeting card.

Importance of Greeting Cards

Sending out this card to your sphere of friends, business partners, and customers is significant for the following reasons:
1. It improves your current customer relationships
2. It draws new customers
3. It reminds your old customers of your business
4. It shows your customers that you appreciate them

Though it may seem easy, creating greeting cards can be a bit daunting if you don't know the rules in creating it. There are etiquettes that need to be followed so as not to offend the receiver of the card. Here are things you need to consider in creating your business greeting card.

Create high quality cards. It's critical that you create quality cards to show your customers that you value them. Use designs and templates that show your business image in a professional manner. This way your readers will know that your business is good and worthy to be invested in.

Personally sign your greeting cards. It's common practice for many businesses to print greeting cards and sign them with a personal message. The most professional and elegant cards today contain the signature of the maker and a short handwritten message. This will surely make your customer feel valued and appreciated.

If possible, handwrite the address of the receiver. To create a more personalized feel for your greeting cards, handwrite the name and address of the receiver in the envelope. Don't use computer printing as they are impersonal and make your message look like mass message. It may be time consuming to do this, but you are sure to keep your clients loyal to you and your business.

Mail on time. Avoid the rush; send your greeting cards in time for the holiday you are sending the cards for. If you intend your cards to be sent in time for Thanksgiving, make and address your cards months before the holiday. Don't forget to write a line or two on each card, sign your name, and mail them immediately.

Observe traditions. When writing greeting cards, be sure to find out whether the recipients observe the holiday you are sending the card for. Make sure to write the appropriate message for each recipient. If you choose to send a generic card, a simple "Season's Greetings" is a safe message.

Send to home address. As much as possible, use the home address of the recipient. Mail only to their business address when there is no way to know their home address. Include also the spouse's name in the envelope and include titles rather than just putting the names in the envelope.

When created professionally, your greeting cards will help promote your business effectively. Aside from telling your readers of your considerate nature, your cards will also show your customers of your social grace. This in turn will result in long term customer relationships and successful sales.

do people still kiss the hands of elders as a sign of respect?

.. "kissing the hands" of elders (like parents) are still practiced at this time and age. sometimes it's not literally "kissing" their hands; in some cultures, younger people are expected to reach out for the elder's right hand and touch the back of that hand to their forehead as a sign of greeting or respect. the elders in turn utter some words of blessing for them like "God bless you!" or upon leaving, "God be with you!"

still in other culture, young people kiss their parents and grandparents on the cheek as a sign of greeting. others hug.

in your own culture, how do you show a respectful greeting to your elders?

As Filipinos, the culture of kissing the our elders hands are still being practiced up to this day. Elders would mean our parents, our older relatives, family friends and neighbors if they happen to be in our house when we arrrive at night or when we meet them in some place. Even our parents still kiss our grandparents' hands when we have family gatherings on weekends. I hope future generations still continue this very simple act of respect and honor. Kissing on cheeks and huggung are also common as signs of greetings. But as I see it, the kissing of the hands is still the most respectful act we can do to our elders.

Send Custom-Made Greeting Cards Any Time

A custom-made greeting card never fails to tug one's heart strings. Whether it is coming from a long-lost friend or a six-year-old kid, a greeting card, made particularly for the occasion, can make one feel completely special. The effort put on making a greeting card, however small or simple it is, can be a source of unexpected happiness or a pleasant surprise to the receiver. Nothing beats a carefully thought of greeting card which contains a handwritten message, especially drafted for the occasion. A well thought of cover for the greeting card is an added bonus, too. On custom-made greeting cards, you may see personal photographs, doodles and sketches, drawings or portraits – any personal stamp or touch of character - that can convey a lot to the receiver as well as the sender.
On birthdays and holidays, such as Christmas and Valentines' Day, sending greeting cards have been a continuing tradition. This mode of communication has been done by our grandparents and has passed down to many generations. Greeting cards still has not lost its unique charm even in this day and age when you can send an immediate message through email or chat via the internet. After all, some chat messages cannot be retrieved once you log out of your computer or when you decide not to save it. All these online exchanges, and even those electronic greeting cards that have become a rage, are rather impersonal and ephemeral. They do not give a sense of sentimentality or nostalgia. You cannot also keep them for posterity unlike a greeting card.
greeting cards can be sent on any occasion and even on ordinary days. If you want to make someone feel terribly missed or to just say a hello, why not resort to a greeting card? Although sending greeting cards is not as grand as giving a material gift, say, for example, it is a heartwarming expression of one's sentiments. It can be a sign of friendship, a token to say thanks, and other ways of expressing our emotions. It can also pave the way for renewing friendships and reconnecting relationships. As there are people who may find it hard to express their feelings face-to-face or even over the phone, a greeting card can open one's communication line. It can be a way to show someone that he or she is forgiven and that reconciliation is an option, among other possibilities.
If you have time to spare, create your own greeting card for your special someone, best friend, or dear parent. Just like in writing a letter, make your greeting card very personal. You may want to exercise your creative skills, such as graphic design or taking photographs, and incorporate those in your greeting card. You may also consider doodling through the front cover, and include what the receiver's likes or interests are. Your greeting card does not have to be a work of art, although you can make it a masterpiece. What is important is that, together with the appealing visual, you should have a great message. Take time in writing your message. You may want to make it humorous, inspiring, or sentimental. You may want it to be written long hand or type written – you decide.
Whatever the design of your greeting card is or even how long the message is, the receiver would not mind. The mere act of making a greeting card on your own already shows your love and sincerity towards the other person.
