Types of Bamboo Garden Water Fountains
There are two basic types of bamboo water fountains. The traditional stationary bamboo fountain consists of multiple hollow bamboo chutes with one chute typically placed upright or angled along the edge of the fountain reservoir for water flow. The other type is the shishi-odoshi (or deer chaser) bamboo fountain. In this type of fountain, a hollow bamboo chute moves back and forth as water flows through it. This creates a melodic sound in addition to the calming sound of flowing water. It is called the deer chaser because it was originally intended to scare deer away from gardens with the sound of the moving chute. There are many shishi-odoshi bamboo garden water fountain designs, with the most common one consisting of two vertical bamboo chutes inserted into the ground, and a central bamboo stick sandwiched between these serving as the water tube.

Bamboo garden water fountains are an elegant and natural way to enjoy the soothing sound of flowing water in your garden. While you can find these fountains complete with a pump, you can also add a pump and bamboo spout to any container to create your own bamboo garden water fountain. Should I get a fountain pen or dip pen?
Hi I'm new at calligraphy and I'm wondering if I should get a fountain pen or a dip pen. For either one I would get a kit. The dip pen set is $15 and the fountain pen is $19. But the fountain pen comes with replacement ink cartridges. And I heard a dip pen is hard to use. And with the fountain pen I get paper but not with the dip pen. So which should I get?
Here is the story, from someone that does a bit of calligraphy.
Fountain pen ink is generally water soluble. That means that it's a bit easier to clean-up if you make a mess. But, it also means that the ink is a bit watery and runny.
It is certainly convenient to use a cartridge. Or, you can also use a reservoir that you can fill with bottled fountain pen ink. But like I said, the ink is a bit watery and takes longer to dry...and, it tends to seep a bit on the paper you are writing on.
A dip pen allows you to use india ink. India ink is a "permanent ink". It is smoother to write with and creates crisp lettering. It does not run or seep like fountain pen ink. The downside is that, as you have stated, you need to learn how to properly dip the pen to get just the right amount of ink on the tip. Another down side is that you have to clean your pen immediately after use, or the ink will dry like paint on the pen tip. (Fountain pen ink is forgiving. If it dries on or in the pen, you can just soak the pen tips in cold water overnight and it will be fine.)
