Learn Why Aluminum and Acrylic Are the Ideal Sign Materials

Customers always want to know what our most popular indoor and outdoor sign materials are. Aluminum and Acrylic signs combined account for about 40% of our sales. While the two  have many things in common, they also have some important differences that can help you figure out which (if either) will fit your needs best.

What do aluminum and acrylic signs have in common?

Most significantly, both aluminum and acrylic are extremely versatile. Either can be used indoors or outdoors, though aluminum typically used more often outside while acrylic is often found indoors.

Both are very lightweight and durable, which explains their popularity. In fact, aluminum is among the most durable sign materials available, making it great for your real estate sign.

Since aluminum and acrylic are both lightweight and thin, they are easy to install. Acrylic mounts easily to the wall.

Both materials are also waterproof – an important element for outdoor signs.

But that's really everything they have in common.  So while aluminum and acrylic share some vital elements, their differences are many.

What are the differences between aluminum and acrylic?

Let's look at aluminum first.  The first important thing to know about this sign material is that it is a metal sign material.  Other specific attributes of this material include:

  • often usedr for real estate signs
  • Very strong
  • Flawlessly smooth finish
  • Rustproof
  • Cost effective (but more expensive than acrylic)
  • Won't deteriorate
  • Rigid yet flexible
  • Great for double sided signage
  • Lasts decades inside and up to eight years outdoors

Now for Acrylic. This is a plastic sign material, and is also:

  • Clear acrylic signs are available and extremely popular in office buildings, etc.
  • High gloss surface gives a professional look
  • Polished gold and silver standoffs used to mount acrylic signs look very high-end
  • Pigments on acrylic hold color well
  • Inexpensive
  • Perfect for lighted sign displays
  • For one-sided signs only
  • Lasts indefinitely indoors

Obviously, they are best used for different reasons despite their similarities.

When should I use aluminum and when should I use acrylic?

Aluminum is the most popular outdoor sign material we offer. It is most often used for signs that provide directions or instructions, such as traffic signs and yard signs. Real estate signs are one of the most popular uses for aluminum.  (You can learn how to design an effective real estate sign here.)

Acrylic is used very often in corporate interiors and hotel lobbies. It's glossy, contemporary appearance makes acrylic ideal for professional uses and branding. You'll often see acrylic name plate signs on office doors, for example.

How do i power on my motherboard in a tower i built myself?

Ok, let me lay out my plans of what i am going to build, why, and how you the friendly online public can help me.
first off the parts....
motherboard- Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H
CPU-AMD Athlon 64X2 4200+
Graphics card- GEforce 9800 GTX
HDD- 500GB Hitatch
PSU- 550W Ultra X2
Heatsink/fan- Arctic cooling alpine 64 aluminum cpu cooler

OK, I have build an acrylic (plexiglass) Small form factor box, and am going to install all of the components and submerge them in Mineral oil, so it will look a bit like a fish tank. Note to reader i will not be submerging the HDD or CD drive.
continuing... to the main point!
I need to know how i am to power on my PC! I have never made a computer from scratch before and all previous pc's i have owned simply have a power button in the front, how do i make a power button, is it a simple switch on the motherboard? how would i make one for my SFF pc case? any information or links would be helpful, and thanks for looking guys.

The power-on button for PCs that use ATX power supplies is just a simple momentary switch (which closes the circuit as long as the button is held down).

Why not just salvage one from an old disused case?

Removing Acrylic Nails - The Easy Way

Having the proper knowledge required to remove acrylic nails, without damaging your real finger nails is essential. While these durable beauty enhancements can last for a long time: The need to take them off will eventually come, as your nails grow out too far and you need to remove and re-apply new ones.

Fear not, you don't need to seek out a professional for advice on removing acrylic nails, there is a tried and true method almost any of you out there can use at home. All that will be required is some aluminum foil and acetone nail polish remover from the pharmacy. That is, if you want to do things the relatively easy way -- you can also soak your nails in warm water for some time and they will eventually come off.

So assuming you want to do things the easy way: Get some aluminum foil, cotton balls and acetone ready by your side.

1. First take the foil and cut it into small squares slightly larger than your nails.
2. Next take a cotton ball with acetone and apply a generous amount to the acrylic nail.
3. Place aluminum foil square on the nail and wait at least 20 minutes.
4. Remove foil and use a wooden cuticle pusher for removing acrylic nails.

While the process should be seamless; you may need to reapply some acetone to get any residual that doesn't come of with the first go round.

After you're finished with all of your fingers, soak your hands in a warm green tea bath, with a table spoon of glycerin mixed in for five minutes. After your green tea hand bath, dry your hands and apply your favorite hand cream, followed by some cuticle oil if you wish.

That's all there is to it, your done removing acrylic nails, now it's time to reapply new ones.
